Acetylacetone, also known as diacetylmethane and pentapentanedione, is a derivative of acetone with the molecular formula CH3COCH2COCH3. It is a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid. It is usually a mixture of two tautomers, enol and keto isomers. The two are in dynamic equilibrium. The enol isomer forms hydrogen bonds within the molecule. In the mixture, the keto isomer accounts for about 18% and the enol isomer. Formula accounts for 82%.
